Clothing for Running in Colder Temperatures

It’s that time of year again where the temperatures are starting to fall, and cold weather is rolling in. This is not time to put your exercising clothes away and forget running. This is the time to get out, and beat those winter blues, and be in good shape when the warmer temperatures come back again! First of all you want to have the appropriate clothing to keep you warm and allow your body to breathe. One important fabric to stay away from is cotton. Cotton will hold in moisture and make you wet while you are running in the cold. A good fabric to choose is Gore-Tex which will help with wind and precipitation, while letting out the moisture and prevent overheating and cooling. You’ll want a thin layer of synthetic material such as polypropylene, which wicks sweat from your body for your top layer. Layers allow you to be able to take off what you need when the temperature heats up.  If it is really cold outside a fleece middle layer can be added but pay attention to what you’re body is doing during this time and don’t over do it. If you are concerned about what to wear consult your local running store which is packed with helpful tips as to what to wear and how to keep going in the colder temperatures this winter!
