Turn Lane Paving on Orchard Road Starts Today

Traffic delays are expected today and tomorrow as crews pave turn lanes in six locations along the widened Orchard Road through Montgomery.

If you travel Orchard Road through Montgomery, you may want to find another route today and tomorrow.

Crews from Plote Construction will pave the new southbound left turn lanes on the widened road between Jericho Road and Route 30 over the next two days, according to the Kane County Division of Transportation. And there will be some disruption of traffic as paving equipment moves north to south along the road.

There will be six paving locations, including left turn lanes on Rochester Drive, Knell Road, Aucutt Road and Countryside Lane, and two other areas. It will take crews a few minutes to get the equipment set up and moving at each location, which could cause traffic delays.

Flaggers will be positioned on either end of the paving operations to direct traffic. Officials ask drivers to follow directions, watch for workers, obey the speed limit and stay off cell phones in work zones.

The Orchard Road widening project is set to wrap up this fall, finally uncorking a bottleneck that has led to traffic congestion in the Montgomery area for years. Though Kane County owns that stretch of road, federal and state funds are being used to complete the project, and the Illinois Department of Transportation is in charge.

Plote Construction, of Hoffman Estates, won the bid for the work, and will be paid $9.2 million. Work stopped last December, and picked up again at the beginning of March. The project also includes a bike path on the west side of Orchard, and new traffic signals at Aucutt Road and Rochester Drive.
