As the United Nations declares 2014 the International Year of Family Farming, Aurora celebrates local CSA farmers like Donna & Natasha Lehrer of Lamb of God Farm,  Christina and Rob Montalbano of Montalbano Farms.  Aurora Farmers Market and CSA popularity is on the rise as many more families are choosing optimum nutritional benefits from fresh local produce.

Clean energy solutions for homes and business are now attainable goals thanks to architects like Allen+Pepa Architects and Solar Homes, LLC.  These local experts design homes that conserve 75% more energy than conventionally built homes, staying warm and toasty for pennies when a polar vortex strikes.  Aspiring aquaponics engineers and indoor gardeners will appreciate the new Happy Leaf LED light, tuned to 450 and 660 nanometer wavelengths and priced effectively for kitchen gardens and greenhouses alike.

Natural resource conservation is easy with free rain water collection in rain-barrels for summer gardens.  Pre-order a rain-barrel from The Conservation Foundation for pick-up at the festival. Learn how to transform your lawn into an attractive wildlife habitat with Conservation @ Home. Visit the energySMART team at Nicor, helping Fox Valley conserve natural gas and save 30-55% on water and energy use with free upgraded showerhead and sink aerators. With sensible solutions like these, going green really does save green.

At the Green Car Show, learn why Phil & Chris Young never have to swipe their credit card at the gas pump again with their Chevy S-10 electric conversion.  They converted their truck with expert advice from the Fox Valley Electric Auto Association. Gerald Nissan Subaru is presenting the new Nissan Leaf, and tech writer from EV Parade Grant Gerke is bringing a Tesla to share.

The Recycling Extravaganza @ Aurora GreenFest has many new options for helping the community while you clean house. Bring unused art supplies, old books, clean cloth diapers, clothes, computers, cell phones, electronics, foam #6, medications, musical instruments, rags and shoes to reuse and recycle.

Mavis Bates, founder of Aurora GreenFest, is thrilled about the festival’s impact on Fox Valley. “Our goal is to motivate our community to make earth friendly choices in their daily lives, providing ideas, tools, and solutions. We have enjoyed five years of strong support, and are looking forward to our 5th Anniversary as the best Aurora GreenFest ever.”

Aurora GreenFest 2014 is honored to receive a grant from The Dunham Fund, whose mission is devoted to education, enterprise and community development - the foundations for a better tomorrow.

With major support from community leaders like Allegra Marketing Print & Web, Creative Edge, Creekwalker Creative, energySMART from Nicor, Hix Bros Music, The Voice Independant Newspaper and many more, this grassroots sustainability initiative has grown into a family event drawing over 2000 visitors, hundreds of volunteers, artisans, conservationists, naturalists and more. Come and enjoy!
