"All Hands On Deck!" Desert Banquet

Oswego Young Life announced today that its third annual fundraising event, “All Hands on Deck”, will be held October  22nd at the Oswego YMCA on Washington Street. The event, which is a dessert banquet, will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Oswego Young Life is a chapter of Young Life, which has been in existence for six decades. Lance Poelman, Director of Oswego Young Life, said “The banquet is a great place for people to learn about Young Life and our mission. While we hope to raise money at the banquet so we can continue to reach out to high school kids, we have found from past events that attendees also enjoy meeting a lot of our  group’s kids and hearing from them.” He continued, “It’s important to me that people who attend understand what our staff and volunteers do, and how we can make a difference in the lives of kids as they grow to accept and understand the truth about God and His love for us.”  Young Life is completely supported by the community, and
this year’s theme, "All Hands on Deck!" reflects Oswego Young Life’s desire for community involvement on a large scale so it can continue to grow and reach out to students in Oswego.

Without support from individuals, churches, and businesses, Young Life would not exist in the community.  Donated funds are used to pay for the Director’s full time salary, leader training, as well as to run any events that Young Life hosts during the year for kids, including Summer Camp, Club (a weekly event), and the Polar Bear Weekend. There is no cost for kids to attend Young Life meetings and functions, and the cost of Camp and the Polar Bear Weekend are kept as low as possible so it is easy (and inexpensive) for kids to attend.
