Long Beach Elementary First Year Robotics Team Advances to State Competition

Their project involved speaking to first responders and solving a problem that is incurred during a natural disaster.

On Sunday December 15, the Long Beach Elementary School's first year robotics team, the Cyborgs, competed in the First Lego League 2013 Illinois Qualifying Tournament.

The tournament took place at SciTech in Aurora. There were 16 teams competing with the top 4 advancing to state competition. The Cyborgs finished in the top 4 and advanced to the state competition.

They were also runner up for 2 awards as well as the winners of the Judge's Choice Award. This team consisted of 4th and 5th graders and was the only elementary school advancing in the tournament.

Their season began in September and they have been working on not only building their robot and completing missions, but also a project and their core values.

Their project involved speaking to first responders and solving a problem that is incurred during a natural disaster. 

The state tournament will take place February 8th in Arlington Heights. There will be 60 teams competing.

4th graders: Wrigley Page. Maddie Zarembski and Ella Tuffner
