OHS Interact Club Honoring Former Grads Who Served

The deadline to send in photos is Feb. 1.

The Interact Club of Oswego High School is in the process of creating a  memorial to honor all of their former graduates who have served in the military, or are on active duty.

Under the leadership of counselor, Paula Hilderbrand and student, Kevin Claus, they are searching for information on these former graduates.

The idea for the memorial came about when a fellow counselor took pictures of a “Wall of Honor” at a neighboring school.  He thought it was a wonderful idea and knowing what a huge supporter of the troops Ms. Hilderbrand is, thought she would also like the project.  He was right!

The wheels starting turning and she began thinking that there should be some way to honor all of the graduates of Oswego High who have gone into the service since graduation.

The memorial will feature framed photos of the former students, preferably in military uniform.  The response thus far has been very positive and numerous letters and cards have come in thanking Ms. Hilderbrand for the idea of the memorial.

“It’s been extremely rewarding”, says Hilderbrand.  They have received fifty photos so far and are hoping many others will hear of the memorial through the media or friends and family.

There will be a fundraiser dinner in the spring for the Dave Marcinko Scholarship and  a formal unveiling of the memorial which will include the honorees and their families.  Details are still being worked out.

A final deadline for receipt of the photos is February 1.  A five by seven photo in military uniform is preferred.  Be sure to indicate year of graduation and branch of service.

The original photos will be returned to sender after they are scanned.  Please them to: Oswego High School,  4250 Rt. 71, Oswego, IL 60543, Attn: Paula Hilderbrand.
