Fostering Lexi: Going for a Car Ride!

It’s been a busy week for Lexi .

She finally has this thing called “play” down – or at least “chew.” I’m watching her right chew on a stuffed football she’s rather fond of. She’ll chew each toy (she’s got quite a collection!) for a few minutes and then switch to another.

She’s also found out that the bone actually tastes good and has done some good work on it.

The only downside to this whole chewing thing is Lexi has to now learn what’s off limits. The wooden blinds in the kitchen sadly paid the price when she managed to chew them for about a minute while I was just a few feet away doing dishes. But Lexi is a really good listener and after being very firmly told “no” she hasn’t even given them a second glance.

Lexi also went for her first car ride! You can see in the photos she’s an ideal passenger. She spent the ride just looking out the window – didn’t even try putting her head out -  and watching the cars. She would actually follow a car with her eyes – my mom’s observation, not mine, as I was busy driving very slowly and carefully.

The only thing she didn’t like about the car ride was getting in. She still pauses a bit on the last step into the house (I will say, both the front and the back have a decent size last-step) so we had to lift her up. She wasn’t all that fond of that, so next time she needs to travel we’ll most likely be putting her in her crate instead.

And since Lexi likes to be outside so much we’ve rigged up a stake in the front yard and are able to attach her leash to it so she can chill out under the tree. She absolutely loves it and we’re sure she’s going to like it even more once the weather cools off next week!

Right now we’re watching the trees sway in the backyard and the storm come in. We’re not sure if Lexi likes thunder, so this could be a long night! So long as the power doesn’t go out though we’re ready for anything!
