Fostering Lexi: Lexi is Up for Adoption

It's hard to believe that on Saturday (late evening) it will be a full week since Lexi came into my life.

She started off as a quieter dog, ribs sticking out and not really certain of anything.

Now she's super playful (a bit rambunctious even), filling out nicely and it's hard to imagine her leaving.

But on Saturday we're going to be at the Petsmart in Geneva for Lexi's first (and hopefully last) adoption event where I hope we'll meet members of her new forever family. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. where you can come meet Lexi and fill out an application if you're interested in adopting her.

She's also now up on Petfinder! You can check Lexi out there and email Kathy on how to fill out an application if you can't make it out to Geneva.

We're actually still trying to figure out how to make it there as Lexi has decided she really, really, really doesn't like my car. After the first initial car ride in which we had to pick her up to get her in, she now balks and won't come near the car when the door is open. We've gotten her to hop up by pulling her over and propping her front paws up on the seat, so we'll be working more on that. Can't get adopted if she can't get in the car!

And since it's been a while since we've checked in, here's a few more things happening with Lexi.

1. She's attempting to exterminate the moth population of Oswego, starting with my cul-de-sac. Every evening on our nightly stroll around the court she pounces on (and eats) a bunch of moths. Good source of protein?

2. Lexi saw her first squirrel and bunny rabbit. The squirrel was hpping in some trees across the street and she tracked the little guy with her eyes, but moved along when we continued our walk. Tonight while we were walking on a prairie path a bunny jumped out in front of us. She sort of froze and then strained at her leash to go after it. We walked over and she sniffed around, but we continued on our walk shortly after. It's nice to not have my arm ripped off at the sight of wildlife, as every other dog I've ever walked seemed inclined to do.

3. Lexi has taken up whining to get our attention. She'll pace all around the house and scratch at the outside doors until she gets our attention. Starting last night we started just ignoring this behavior and not going outside until she calms down. It seems to have worked really well: haven't had any whining since this morning when I gave her the cold shoulder. (And that's hard, she's got the cutest puppy eyes!) If anyone has any suggestions on how to curb whining (for attention) would love suggestions!

4. Lexi is figuring out how to get the cookie and NOT get in her crate at night. She's very wily! We're trying to teach her "crate" but it's not sticking too well yet. She does like all the cookies though. However, "sit" and "come" are starting to work a little bit, and she does an excellent job on our walks.

5. If Lexi has her way, she's going to befriend every dog in the neighborhood (except those two hounds that barked at her and scared her). I feel like there needs to be a dogwalkers group of Deerpath Creek.

And Lexi and I are going to get back to watching the football game and cheering for Welker to finally do something. She doesn't really get it, but she loves the tummy rubs while I'm yelling (quietly) at the screen!

On a last note, if you are interested in possibly adopting Lexi please feel free to shoot me an email or comment here if you have any questions. I'll be with her for the majority of the event on Saturday as well and can answer anything then too!
