Gobbler Hobbler 10K & Mashed Potato Mile Marks 30th Year with Great Race

What a beautiful run we had this past weekend!  With over 500 One Mile runners and over 600 10K athletes, we saw a field of happy, healthy folks at the Oswegoland Park District’s 30th Annual Gobbler Hobbler 10K and Mashed Potato Mile.

The Mashed Potato Mile earned area athletes Nicholas Heinz and Amanda Darling each a steaming plate of potatoes for crossing the finish line first.  Our congratulations to our 10K winners: Damian Bednorz with a time of 34:52 and Laura Anderson who finished in 48:52.  Both went home with turkeys for their Thanksgiving table.  These runners were joined by hundreds of other athletes who came out to start their week out with the community. Thank to everyone who came out.

The race was supported by Grothman Clinic/Advanced Chiropractic Solutions, Oswego Cyclery, the area’s new running club – The Fox Valley Run Junkees, and the Fox Chase Elementary School who hosted the event.  We are so appreciative of their partnership!

Our thanks goes to all the volunteers who came out to help host the event.  Thank you to the Oswego scouts and St. Anne’s youth group who manned our water stations, to the local Junior High and High School students who flipped walking pancakes for hundreds of runners, to the Oswego Fire Department who keeps an eye on the finish line, to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and Oswego Police Department who man 5 key corners.  We understand that the delay for traffic, even for the short time as the runners cross is a gift the entire town gives us, and we appreciate it.

Our mission at the park district is to create opportunities for a healthy community.  We were count ourselves fortunate that so many people take us up on these opportunities. There is a great honor in being allowed to witness these personal accomplishments, no matter the distance.  Thank you to everyone who came out to help host or to play.  This season, we are thankful for you!
