Y-Be Fit Campers Going for GOLD!

Oswego Y-Be Fit campers will compete in their own Summer Olympics this week. We've recorded significant improvement in speed, endurance, strength, and sportsmanship.

The Oswego Family YMCA's Y-Be Fit Summer Camp will be competing in their very own Summer Olympic games. They will go for GOLD this week with competitions in sports, fitness, nutrition knowledge, and fun!

Our athlete's haven't been training for years like the olympians-but for campers who have been with us for most or all of camp-they have been training for the Y-Be Fit Olympics for 8 weeks!

A lot of people wonder what can we possibly do every day at a fitness camp? What makes us different than a traditional day camp? Aren't all camps the same?

Each week we have fitness assessments that record their speed, endurance, strength, balance, etc. Each week there is a sport of the week as well and we focus on sports specific skills for that week.  Each week campers take an exercise class taught by one of our certified fitness professionals-they participate in workouts with their counselors that are appropriate for their age group. Every day campers participate in warm ups, physical activity, and stretching. We go on active field trips such as rock climbing, hiking, swimming, trampolining, etc.

Beyond the physical improvements at Y-Be Fit Fitness camp we've seen campers overcome fears, try new things, go to new places, make new friends, try different foods, and learn healthier habits. Each week camp staff incorporates character development lessons that relate to the YMCA's four core value's: Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Honesty.

Our opening ceremony begins Monday morning. We will have different competitions each day. Closing ceremony will be Friday afternoon-we're treating the campers to a Trophy Party from Fox Valley Trophy.

ALL Y-Be Fit campers are winners already-because each camper has already improved their fitness level, gained valuable nutrition knowledge, and have been active all summer long! Plus they've had a great time...what more could a parent ask for?

Our last 2 weeks of Fitness Camp:

Big Top Blast-sport of the week is basketball

Let's Luau-sport of the week is floor hockey.
