Crash Victim Remembered as Great Friend and Father

Christopher Glover loved his motorcycles, but he loved his friends and family more. Glover, of Montgomery, was killed in a motorbike crash last Monday, and buried on Saturday.

Michelle Beverley was 16 years old when she met the man who would become her husband, Christopher Glover.

They met at a teen center in Yorkville, and she said she was drawn to his sense of humor, and his long hair. They had common friends, so they started hanging out, and then dating. They became parents, then spouses.

The Glovers have three children – twins Ashley and Chris, whom everyone calls by his middle name Tyler, are now 17, and Dalton is 13. And even though the marriage did not work out, Michelle and Christopher stayed close. Christopher Glover was, by all accounts, a great father to his kids, and a great friend to those who knew him.

It’s been more than a week since Glover in an accident on Route 30 at Prescott Drive, but the pain is still fresh for his friends and family. Glover, 37, of the 2400 block of White Rose Drive in Montgomery, was driving his Kawasaki motorcycle east on Route 30 around 9:40 p.m. on May 14 when a westbound Nissan Ultima turned in front of him.

He struck the side of the car, and was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he died around 12:08 a.m. on May 15. No charges have been filed, and the case is still under investigation by Montgomery police.

Michelle said she received a call from Chris’ mom letting her know about the accident Monday night, and they went together to the hospital.

“They put him in surgery, and they didn’t think he’d make it through,” she said. “And he didn’t.”

Now Michelle and the kids are left with their memories of a man universally described as fun, funny, and a world-class father. His kids, according to friend and family member Eric Gaytan, were his world. He was their best friend, he said.

Michelle’s brother, Rich Ricketts, was one of Chris’ best friends. They met when both were 11 years old, and stuck together ever since. Rich said he has many memories of working on their motorbikes in his garage, and riding them around town. Motorcycles, he said, were Chris’ passion, along with music. (“Everything but country,” he said with a laugh.)

“I’m going to miss not having him here working on his bike when I get home,” he said. “It’s going to be weird for me to walk into my garage now.”

On Saturday, friends and family members packed Dieterle Memorial Home in Montgomery to say goodbye. Michelle said her kids are reacting to the loss in different ways, but the shock has worn off. All they have left now are memories.

“He was very caring,” Michelle said. “Once you were his friend, you were his friend for life.”

A fund has been set up in Christopher’s memory at Castle Bank 6601 U.S. 34 in Oswego to help pay for his kids’ college education. Go to see memories of Chris left on Patch by his family and friends.
