COST: Free, with a suggested fundraising minimum of $100
WHY HELP: This event is just one of 33 taking place across the nation to stop child sex slavery. All event proceeds will directly support the organization's mission to stop child trafficking.

OSWEGOWHAT: Spaghetti dinner fundraiser
WHERE: , 5 E. Washington St., Oswego
WHEN: 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24
WHY ATTEND: Profits will benefit the Red Bird Mission Trip to the Appalachian Mountain area, as well as other local and global United Methodist Men mission projects.
COST: $7 ages 12 and older; $5 ages 4 to 11; $20 for a family of two adults and three kids; free for children younger than 3
FEATURES: This family-friendly dinner will include a hot Italian meal of spaghetti, with a choice of meat or meatless marinara sauce, salad, garlic bread, homemade desserts and beverages.

WHY HELP: The organization's mission is to promote emergency preparedness throughout the community. Help is needed from community leaders from all sectors and the public.
REQUIREMENTS: Those interested in volunteering should be committed to strengthening community safety and preparedness through civic engagement and by developing goals and strategies tailored to certain community vulnerabilities and populations.

WHAT: 's Peanut Days fundraising program
WHO IT HELPS: The club's fundraising efforts previously have helped such organizations as Yorkville's Parks and Recreation Department, The Salvation Army and the Kendall County Food Pantry.
HOW TO HELP Participants can purchase or underwrite the cost of one or more cases of peanuts that will be shipped to U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq via Operation Support.
