Oswego Panthers to Honor Eric Lederman Today

A ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. at Oswego High School, where the Panthers baseball team will retire Lederman's number. Lederman, 12, died in April in an accident before a baseball game.

This afternoon, the Panthers baseball team will face off against the Wolves at the OHS field. But before that game, the Panthers will do something special – they will honor Eric Lederman by retiring his number.

Lederman, 12, of Oswego, was a catcher for the Oswego Panthers Orange 12U baseball team, and he after an accident at a game in Wheaton. He was warming up before the game, and was struck in the neck with a ball. It was a tragedy that shook the Oswego community, and hundreds , and to help his family.

At 5 p.m. today, the Panthers will hold a ceremony honoring Lederman on the OHS baseball field, and will retire the number 2. Head Coach Christopher Neitzel said this will ensure that Lederman, who loved baseball, will always be a Panther. The Lederman family will be in attendance.

The ceremony will take place directly before the game, at 5 p.m. The public is welcome.

The Oswego Baseball and Softball Association, in conjunction with Oswego Youth Tackle Football, has set up a memorial fund. Monetary donations can be made to the fund at Allied First Bank, 3201 Orchard Road, Oswego, IL 60543. Make donations payable to "Eric Lederman Memorial Fund."
