Richard Robert Smith Sr., 79, Coached Football and Soccer, Loved Western Novels

Richard Robert Smith, Sr. age 79 years, of Oswego, IL passed away peacefully Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 24, 1934 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Richard R and Josephine T nee Walsh Smith.

Dick was employed by Illinois Bell Telephone Company for 50 years prior to his retirement. He is a member of St Anne Catholic Church in Oswego, IL, a former member of the Men’s Club of St Domitilla Catholic Church and the Assumption Knights of Columbus Council #3671 both of Hillside, IL. 

He treasured his wife Patricia and enjoyed spending time with his family. He coached football and baseball, loved golf, and was an avid reader of western novels.

Dick is survived by his wife Patricia Ann nee Donegan Smith, (whom he married on August 6, 1955 in Chicago, IL), two daughters Mary Jo Smith of Brookfield, IL, Tricia (Julian) Bell of Bolingbrook, IL, four sons Kevin (Patricia A) Smith of Sandwich, IL, Vincent (Kimberly) Smith of Sandwich, IL, Richard R (Lucy) Smith, Jr of Naperville, IL, Phillip J Smith ofPlano, IL, fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters Patricia Martin ofWonder Lake, IL, Joanne (Roy) Meyers of CT, brother William (Eva) Smith of FL, also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Katelynn Smith.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with Crematory 1801 Douglas Road Oswego, IL.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Ouper on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St Anne Catholic Church 551 Boulder Hill Pass Oswego, IL. Burial will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
