Bad for Oswego and Aurora: Speedway Gas Station which wants to sell liquor and lots of it and will also have designated diesel pumps to cater to Semi-trucks is looking to locate directly across the street from our Oswego308 School District's Bednarcik Junior High School and Wolf's Crossing Elementary on the northeast corner of Wolf's Crossing Road and Route 30. This must not be approved by the Oswego City Council. Both roads are one lane each way. There will be semi-trucks turning in and out on these ONE land roads.  If you are in the area, I ask you to drive these roads during morning and afternoon. You will experience quite an interesting backup with all the traffic going to Oswego East High School, Murphy Junior High School, Bednarcik Junior High School, Wolf's Crossing Elementary, other schools in Oswego for special programs, as well as people traveling to their jobs and to shop at businesses in Oswego. The additional traffic congestion will frustrate residents who take these roads to shop at Oswego businesses.  There is NO left turn lane at either of these roads so when a car wants to turn left, you can imagine what happens. The traffic going westbound on Wolf's Crossing Road sometimes backs up past Eola Road all the way to 248th Avenue in Naperville. Who will make the road improvements? Do you think Speedway will? If not, will the City of Oswego?
If Speedway gets in, it will become the neighborhood corner store for the area. On daily basis, our elementary and junior high students will see huge advertisements for beer and other alcohol posted outside the store. When they go into the store, they will see an eyeful of alcohol lined up. If you had a chance to visit inside a gas station that sells alcohol, you have seen inside the store which resembles more of a liquor store than a convenience store.  We will have high school student drivers driving alongside increased semi-truck traffic. Would you be interested in having this type of Speedway Gas Station across the street from Churchill Elementary and Plank Junior High; Thompson Junior High; Traughber Junior High; or scores of our other Elementary Schools? I am not at all opposed to Speedway Gas Station locating in Oswego, but I am opposed to it being located directly across from two of our Oswego 308 schools. It is absurd. I am not at all opposed to businesses that sell alcohol, but not across the street from our K-8th grade students.
