Community Corner

Is our board president representing us?

The most disturbing comments of last night's board meeting were those by board president Bill Walsh, and his constant instance that parent input was merely "data points" and that decisions about the school district rest solely on the superintendent. As the hired "expert," Wendt's recommendations should certainly be heard and valued by the school board, BUT, the citizens of Oswego 308 should have just as large a seat at the table. I am aghast that an elected official who represents 308 parents and citizen, would refer to his constituents as "just data points". This demonstrates a disregard for honest community input, and puts the future of the community in the hands on one man who has lived here for 2 years. If you are publicly stating that decisions are in the hands of Wendt, why are you there? The school board's job is to fully evaluate recommendations, listen to input from all sides, and make a fair and balanced decision that is in the best interest of our students and the tax payers. Don't just listen to your citizens, but hear them too.
