Letter to the Editor: Kifowit's Statement a "Red Flag"

Dear Editor,

In this election, as it is with every election, it is important for voters to know who it is they wish to elect into public office.  It is important that voters have a clear picture of where a candidate stands on major issues.  Voters need to be able to trust that what a candidate tells them about their position on the issues is in fact the truth.

In a meeting with Stephanie Kifowit, candidate for State Rep. 84th Dist., she assured me and others who were in attendance that she fully supported the right of law abiding citizens to carry a firearm for the purpose of protecting themselves and their families. Those who spoke with Stephanie that day were very shocked when she sent out an over-the-top campaign mail piece attacking her opponent for sharing that very same position.

Stephanie certainly has a right to determine where she stands on the major issues we all face. However, standing on BOTH sides of the issue, depending on who she is speaking with at the time, is truly a red flag to voters.

We need candidates who will take a stand, be forthright and transparent about that stand, and let the votes fall where they may.  A major flip-flop of this kind should be a cause of great concern for voters in her district.
