Letter to the Editor: Terrific Success for First Year Brew at the Bridge

Send your letters to the editor to natalie.stevens@patch.com.

This past Saturday the Oswegoland Park District hosted our first Craft Beer Festival.  We had beer from 19 different brewing companies, great music, food from four amazing local vendors, and palette-cleansing pretzel necklaces from the Oswego Optimist Club.

All of this accompanied the most beautiful fall weekend.  If you didn’t try BBQ from Cherry Red Roasters, Sausages from the  Wurst Kitchen, Pizza from Shef Brothers or the Tap House offerings, you missed out!

Over 5,000 people came out to enjoy Brew at the Bridge, which was a terrific success for our first year.  We were able to show the local craft brewing industry that when we say the people will come to this event, we mean it!  We are excited to have the breweries come back next year with enough product to satisfy the curious crowds.

We are grateful to our volunteers and our event partners, the Tap House Grill, Weblinx Inc., and the Oswegoland Park and Recreation Foundation.  Their support from the very beginning enabled us to try putting this “something new” on the community calendar.

We used a lot of the same format that the community has already enjoyed and for that we are thankful for the gracious Michelle Bergeron and the Village of Oswego staff.  After this weekend, we can’t wait to enjoy the Village’s Wine on the Fox, May 4-5, 2013!

"A terrific success"? Really? It was definitely popular as I too was there. But a terrific success would constitute the vendors not running out of beer. Some were closing shop at 3:30 and almost all were out by 5. The event was suppose to last till 8. I got stuck with tickets and couldn't get seconds or info on the 2 I really liked. I enjoyed myself while it lasted, but I hope next year the vendors plan a little better. Kudos to all involved in it's organizing the event and working the event. GREAT idea and hope to have it again. As the Red Stripe commercial goes...Hooray Beer.

I may be the lone voice in the wilderness, but why are we promoting the consumption of alcohol. Beer and wine. Also, are we not promoting individual business' that provide alcohol? With all the fallout of driving and drinking, underage drinking, violance from drinking, why is our community having these type of events to encourage more use of the product?? Across the river there is a memorial to 5 young people gone way too early in life, all because alcohol was made available and enticing to them. Example is much stronger than lecture. Just sayin' !!
