Abigail Klick-Co-Student Athlete of the Week

Senior Abigail Klick is involved in so many activities at Oswego East it is a wonder how she finds time to sleep.  Her list of activities includes: Vice President of Student Council, Secretary of National English Honor Society, Secretary of the Senior Class, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, Science National Honor Society, National Honor Society, and captain of the dance team.  Throw in two Advanced Placement (AP) courses and a medical topics course and you have a schedule that would make the most determined person queasy.  Abigail’s drive for excellence is why she is this week’s Co-Student athlete of the week.

Despite Abigail’s lengthy to do list, her heart lies in her ability to help others.  Oswego East dance coach Tiffany Morelli says, “[Abigail] treats everyone equally, and is a friend to anyone on the team. She is the person the girls all go to for help or advice and they can count on her.”  Having danced competitively for 8 years, Abigail understands how important team cohesion is to success.  She has choreographed many of the dances for the team, and understands how the team’s success can translate to the school as a whole.  “We always strive to improve and change things to get better, because we care how the school feels about us,” says Abigail.

Academics have always been a priority for Abigail, and the high expectations and success from the dance floor translate to the classroom.  Ranked 9th in her class for overall G.P.A., Abigail’s AP calculus teacher, Mr. John Paul Shore, uses strong adjectives such as “hard working, focused, and demanding of herself,” to praise Abigail’s behavior in the classroom.  While some seniors elect to take classes that do not demand as much of their time, Abigail continues to challenge herself with Mr. Shore’s AP BC Calculus, AP Biology, and a challenging medical topics class.

Abigail will be able to take lessons learned from medical topics and apply it to her future major, Pre-Medicine.  Abigail lists becoming a doctor as a personal goal, putting her in a position to be a future care giver for life.  Butler, Vanderbilt, and Creighton University are all possible destinations to land this talented senior.  Abigail also plans on continuing her dance career in college.

Whatever college Abigail chooses, Mrs. Morelli knows she will be successful.  Morelli remarked, “Not only is Abigail one of the most talented dancers I have ever worked with, she is also the most modest and genuine person I know.  She has amazing gifts, and I know she will go far after high school.”  Klick’s personality, work ethic, and drive will be sorely missed by Oswego East next fall, but hopefully future wolves will heed her advice for their future success.  Says Klick,  “Get involved immediately to get to know people, it makes your [high school] experience much more enjoyable.”
