Christmas Cards for Vets

Once again we were able to make some very deserving Veterans happy by sending Christmas cards to them.

Although I wasn't able to get a full-blown campaign together to send cards to our Veterans, we were able to send little packets of cards to some of the area nursing homes that were recipients of Veterans' Day cards.   Time and the personal health crisis in our family precluded me from doing the job I normally do.

However, the Veterans at Bickford and Tillers in Oswego, Hillside Rehab in Yorkville, Jennings Terrace, Countryside and Alden/Waterford in Aurora were thrilled to receive these holiday greetings from our friends here in Oswego.   I was also able to get together cards for the 310 residents at the Manteno Veterans Home.  My ex-husband and his wife live about a block from there and so Gail took them over and dropped them off on Monday.

Even with the small amount of effort put into this project, we were able to get roughly 1,200 cards!   So, while you're thinking about it, why not buy a box of holiday greeting cards when they're on sale this year and save them for next year when we do this again?!

As soon as Christmas is over, it'll be time to think about Valentines Day cards to send our Veterans!   I know....it never ends does it?   These are all such small acts on our part, but they mean the world  to those who live in a facility and oftentimes have little to look forward to.   It continues to teach us the importance of service above self and giving back to those who have given so much.

Thank you to all of you who filled out cards at home, Castle Bank, the Village Grind, the Oswego Womens Civic Club, my friends at Oswego Rotary Club, the OHS Jr. Varsity Cheerleaders, my daughter-in-law Emily (she wrote 200 at our house on Thanksgiving Day!), and many others!   Your contributions were really appreciated!
