$100,000 Worth of Pot Seized, Man Sentenced to 11 Years

Nicholas Daugherty, 28, was charged with the unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver.

A man was sentenced to 11 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after Oswego Police recovered over $100,000 worth of pot during a search of his vehicle, said Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis.

Nicholas Daugherty, 28, of 2700 block of Champaign Avenue, Mattoon, was convicted earlier this month with the unlawful possession with intent to deliver cannabis, a Class X Felony, for an incident of March 2012.

During a traffic stop then, Oswego Police detected a strong odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle driven by Daugherty.

A search of the vehicle revealed 3 bricks and 7 clear plastic bags of cannabis, which was approximately 25 pounds of cannabis that has an estimated street value of over $100,000.

Daugherty later admitted he was being paid to transport the drugs from the Aurora area to Mattoon.
