A toddler who was pulled from a retention pond in unincorporated Montgomery Monday afternoon has died.

The 2-year-old, identified as Mohamed Qattum of the 200 block of Fernwood Road, died Wednesday, according to the Beacon News. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Kendall County Sheriff's police said the boy was reported missing at around 12:15 p.m. Monday after walking away from his mother and his siblings.

Deputies found the toddler in a retention pond near his home and were able to pull him from the freezing water, which was partially iced over.

He was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Kendall County Sheriff's police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the boy's disappearance but said no foul play was suspected.

Sometimes the truth hurts Beth. Sure, we can sugarcoat it and try not to asses blame, but, the situation was preventable. Perhaps, instead of glossing that fact over, this could be a teaching moment? Watch your children. That moment of inattention can be deadly.

At this point does it make any sense to blame the parents? I'm sure they feel bad enough. God bless them. The pain will last forever.
