Alcohol a Factor in Crash: Yorkville Police

Police say driver was drunk when he hit a Yorkville man's car head-on.

A 54-year-old Sandwich man who was injured in a head-on crash May 4 in Yorkville also faces a DUI charge, police said.

Donald L. Schuler, of the 100 block of Oak Avenue, is charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving an uninsured vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt following the crash, reported at 9:07 p.m. at Galena Road and Rosenwinkle Street, police said.

According to police, a 23-year-old Yorkville man was stopped at Galena Road waiting to turn on Rosenwinkel Street when his Toyota Camry was struck head-on by Schuler's Pontiac.

The driver of the Camry, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured, police said, but Schuler had to be extricated from his vehicle by emergency workers.

Schuler was taken to Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora, police said.

"The investigation is pending; however, it is believed that alcohol was involved" in the crash, police said.
