Aurora Man Charged in Meijer Gun Incident

Bond was set at $5,000.

Bruce R. Hendry, of the 100 block of Lancaster Avenue in Aurora, has been charged with one felony and one misdemeanor after police said a .22-caliber handgun into Oswego’s Meijer store Thursday afternoon accidentally went off and shot him in the leg.

He faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor, and reckless discharge of a firearm, a class 4 felony, police said Friday morning.

He was taken to Kendall County Jail, and appeared in court Friday morning where bond was set at $5,000.

A call to 911 Thursday at about 3:50 p.m. reported Hendry, 62, had possibly dropped the gun in the store and it went off accidentally. No one besides Hendry was injured, police said. He was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and later turned over to police custody.
