Aurora Man Guilty in 2009 Oswego Murder

Zachary Reyes convicted of first-degree murder, attempted murder, according to police.

An Aurora man was found guilty Friday night for his part in a fatal shooting that occurred in December 2009 near Long Beach and Douglas roads in Oswego.

Zachary Reyes, of Aurora, who was 16 at the time of the crime, was convicted on one count of first degree murder and another count of attempted first degree murder, according to Oswego police.

The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 20, 2009, as the car Reyes was in drove east down Long Beach Road alongside another car.

The driver of the second car, Jason Ventura of Aurora, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Chicago Tribune, Ventura was a star soccer player at East Aurora High School.

Another passenger also was shot in the arm. Oswego police stopped the vehicle carrying Reyes a short time later on Route 25 near Aurora.
