Authorities: Geneva Man Killed Wife, Dumped Body on Train Tracks

A Geneva man is accused of murdering his wife in their east-side home and then dumping her body on the Metra train tracks on Sunday, authorities said Friday.

Shadwick R. King, 47, of the 800 block of Oak Street in Geneva, is being held on a $1.5 million bond on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife, Kathleen King, 32, of Geneva, according to Kane County State’s Attorney Office.

King was taken into custody on an investigative hold Tuesday, jail officials told Patch Thursday. The murder is the first in Geneva since July 2, 1975, said Geneva Police Commander Julie Nash. 

“The thoughts of the entire Geneva Police Department are with Kathleen King’s family. We will continue to work with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office to ensure she receives justice,” said Geneva Police Chief Steve Mexin in a prepared statement.

Authorities said Kathleen died of asphyxiation at some point after 5 a.m. on July 6.

A Metra conductor spotted Kathleen’s body after 6:30 a.m. on July 6 on the Union Pacific Railway tracks south of Esping Park, 227 Briar Lane, according to Geneva Police. Police responded to the tracks at 6:50 a.m. where they determined Kathleen was dead.

King appeared in bond court Friday morning in Kane County. He is next expected in court at 9 a.m. on July 23 in the Kane County Judicial Center in front of Circuit Judge James C. Hallock.
