Brief Storm Causes More Damage

Route 34 re-opened as of 8:50 a.m.

A brief storm with winds clocked at 60 mph ripped through Oswego at about 8 a.m. Monday, causing downed trees and power lines across town. 

Oswego Police reported that Route 34 between Boulder Hill Pass and Route 71 was closed because of debris in the roadway as of 8:25 a.m. The road was re-opened by 8:50 a.m.

A large tree also was downed at Orchard and Ashlawn avenues, blocking the road.

A power line is also reported down at Madison and Douglas blocking Madison. 

The stop lights at Routes 34 and 30 were also knocked out and the intersection is being controlled by stop signs. ComEd reported as of 8:45 a.m. that more than 10,000 people in the Aurora region, which includes Oswego, were without power.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until noon, according to the National Weather Service.
