Missing Plano Man Found Safe Sunday Evening

Corey Cann, 21, had been missing since Friday evening.

A 21-year-old Plano man who had been missing since 7 p.m. on Friday has been reported found safe, said Plano Police Chief Steven Eaves.

“He was found safe in Carbondale,” said Eaves on Sunday evening.

He said friends had helped transport him there. Although there was no definitive answer of why Cann had left, Eaves said, “[Corey] apparently wanted to get away for a while.”

“It’s a really scary situation,” said Eaves. “We’re all very grateful he was found safe. That’s the most important thing.”

Cann had last been seen at his home in the 500 block of Hale Street, Plano, around 7 p.m. Friday by his brother Ed Cann.

Cann said that apparent friends from his brother’s old college, Southern Illinois University, had come by to visit, according to the Aurora Beacon. Their family dog was acting up around the two friends and Ed Cann took the dog out of the room.

When he came back his brother and two friends were gone. One friend came back into the room to grab a coat and told Ed Cann that they were taking “Corey out for a spin in the truck,” according to the Beacon

The family and friends posted the Find Corey Cann Facebook page to help find Cann, who has cerebal palsy and is confined to a motorized wheelchair.

An earlier post on the page believed Cann to be kidnapped, as family friend Beth Kolar said they received a report that Cann had been spotted in his wheelchair in the bed of a light-tan pick-up truck.

The Plano Police Department worked with the Illinois State police to find Cann.

So he was out drinking at a college? Just disappears for a few days, no phone call? Ridiculous.

Glad he wasted everyones time who went looking for him, especially the police. He can't make a phone call to his worried family? Extremely selfish young man.

WOW! I read all the after thoughts regarding this story. Interesting fact in the Beacon that says the Carbondale police are speaking with this young man to see "if" he wants to be returned home or reside down at Carbondale. 2 whole days of investigating, volunteers spending time looking, and it ends up being a young man selfishly deciding to worry his family. WOW!

Happy ending. Amen!

He is 21 years old and has every right to go out with his friends like any other 21 year old man, I'm sure there were more family issues and a lifelong lack of true independence that helped make these decisions. Had he been a 21 year old not in a wheel chair it would not be on the news. Give him a break and some freedom!

If you recall Plano Police Chief Steve Eves said they were treating this as a missing person case with NO FOUL PLAY suspected and not as a kidnapping. A lot of wasted time spent on this. Something smells fishy in Smallville.

Where does it say he was out drinking?
Jo February 26, 2013 at 06:33 am
He likely didn't know anyone was looking for him. After all, he's an adult with normal cognitive functioning; he doesn't need to ask Mommy if he can go out to play.
Jo February 26, 2013 at 06:34 am
My thoughts exactly.
Jo February 26, 2013 at 06:37 am
I guess I missed the part where he neglected to contact his family after learning people were looking for him.

Jo
so why did Mommy report him as a missing person?
Jeri February 26, 2013 at 05:06 pm
I was raised to communicate, that is reasonable. A reasonable request from the family. Sorry guy very self centered. Glad your ok. Watch out who your friends are.

I find it strange that cory would just dissapear like that, i mean he wouldn't even have me over to his house without talking to his parents first. Glad hes ok though.
