Fire Chief Steps Down After 45 Years in the Game

Deputy Chief Rick Neitzer set to take the helm at Oswego Fire Protection District.

With 45 years of fire service under his belt, Oswego Fire Protection District Chief Brad Smith handed in his resignation to the district board Monday night.

His resignation is effective May 1. 

"He's just an amazing man and he's given so much to this department," said Deputy Chief Rick Neitzer.

Neitzer was named acting chief at Monday night's meeting and will likely be sworn in at the board's next meeting May 9. Neitzer has served as deputy chief for 19 years.
