Hudson Crossing Park Incident Yields Battery Charge

Police were called to the riverfront Wednesday for a report of armed robbery.

Vistors to at about 5 p.m. Wednesday might have been quite surprised to see nearby with guns drawn on a juvenile suspected of an armed robbery.

Police received a call at about 4:55 p.m. reporting an armed robbery with a gun in the area of the park and rushed to the scene, said Oswego Police Department media relations officer Rob Sherwood. In fact, police said no weapons were found on the scene, and a 15-year-old Oswego boy ended up being charged only with battery stemming from a fight near the park.

"Sometimes we get calls for a lot more than they turn out to be," Sherwood said. "But we still have to respond the same way."

An Illinois State Police squad car was also on the scene, but Sherwood said the trooper may have responded solely because of a special alert that was made because of potential weapons involvement. Sherwood said state police were not called in specifically for the incident.
