An Aurora man was taken to Mercy Hospital after jumping into the Fox River early Tuesday morning after he made suicidal statements following a traffic stop, Montgomery police said.
In a press release, Police Chief Daniel Meyers said Alexander Oglesby, 21, of the 800 block of View Street, was stopped for disobeying a traffic control device at about 12:57 a.m.
After being stopped by police, Oglesby fled on foot and jumped into the Fox River off the Ashland Avenue bridge, Meyers said.
Officers watched Oglesby as he floated down the river, police said. "At the Dam 2, [fishermen] rescued Oglesby and he was taken into police custody," Meyers said in the release.
Oglesby was arrested on two outstanding traffic warrants from Aurora police and the Kane County Sheriff's office for driving on a suspended license, police said. He was also issued citations for disobeying a traffic-control device, driving on a suspended license, driving without valid insurance and attempted obstruction of justice.
Meyers said Oglesby was taken to Mercy Hospital after making several suicidal statements. He is due in court on Aug. 20, police said.
