Oswego Police Chief Awarded at International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference

Oswego Police Chief Dwight Baird recently attended the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference and was awarded two certificates for serving as Chairman of the Certifications Committee and the Mentoring Committee.

The Police Chief Certification Program and Committee is designed to enhance police chief professionalism throughout the State of Illinois. The certification and re-certification process allows for continuous professional growth and educational development.

The program offers an opportunity for chiefs across Illinois to demonstrate a higher level of competence in their profession.

“I am honored to be part of such a successful program and share best practices with my newer colleagues around the State,” said Chief Baird. “We all face the same type of problems and situations and it is rewarding to have a network of communication that we all can utilize.”

The Mentoring Program and Committee is used to match experienced mentor chiefs with newer chiefs for a period of three to six months to engage in formal mentoring, supported by the Mentoring Project team. This is a valuable program that helps to connect smaller police executives to meet the unique challenges they will face.
