Oswego Police Providing Extra Enforcement During Homecoming Weekend

Area law enforcement agencies will be enforcing a zero tolerance policy on underage drinking, drunk driving, speeding and seatbelt violations.

One of the goals of the Oswego Police Department is to ensure the safety of the motoring public while traveling on our roadways within the Village of Oswego.

One method we have communicated this safety message is through educational programs on the dangers of alcohol use, especially as it relates to high school teenagers.

Despite our efforts, officers continue to encounter numerous teenagers consuming alcohol.  Since 2008, police have made 427 arrests for underage consumption of alcohol.  Many of those arrested are operating or occupying a motor vehicle or attending a party.

Homecoming is an exciting school event; however, some celebrations include the consumption of alcohol by those teenagers attending the game or dance.

To support our department’s ongoing educational efforts, police will be operating extra patrols during the weekend of October 11th and October 18th as both the Oswego and Oswego East High Schools celebrate their homecoming football game and dance.

In an effort to ensure the safety of the motoring public and those attending the homecoming events, the Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Sheriffs Office and Illinois State Police will be enforcing a Zero Tolerance Policy on underage drinking, drunk driving, speeding and seatbelt violations.

The Oswego Police Department is also asking anyone with information about a homecoming-related activity which may be a public safety concern to call 630-554-3426 or 911.  We can all work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable homecoming weekend for everyone.
