Oswego Police Wrote 63 Seat Belt Tickets During July 4 Campaign

Oswego police made one drunken driving arrest and wrote 63 seat belt citations during a recent Independence Day "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket" crackdown, said Capt. Jeff Burgner.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in the statewide effort to get drunk drivers off roadways and encourage seat belt use, especially during late-night hours.

Oswego police joined with state and local law enforcement agencies to conduct the crackdown campaign, featuring high-visibility local enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, including a media campaign and additional police activity.

Extra emphasis was given to the late-night hours when statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest buckle up, police said.

The crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT's Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket campaigns.
