Police Investigating Fatal Accident on Kennedy Road

One-car crash killed passenger, injured two others.

Police are investigating what caused a 1999 Honda Civic to break a utility pole, flip and come to rest in a yard off Kennedy Road, killing a 21-year-old man at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday.

Ryan A. Perina, of the 7900 block of Galena Road, Yorkville, was killed, while driver Keith M. Stanislaus, 21, of the 500 block of Yellowstone Lane in Yorkville, and a 20-year-old passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening,  Deputy Chief Larry Hilt said.

The two Yorkville men were taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. By 11 a.m. Thursday, Stanislaus had been treated and released, and the other passenger was listed in fair condition, hospital spokeswoman Courtney Satlak said.

Stanislaus was charged with improper lane use, Hilt said. Additional charges could be filed pending the outcome of the investigation, Hilt said.

An Illinois State Police accident reconstructionist was on the scene at about 10 a.m. Thursday, and ComEd crews needed to repair power lines when police were finished with the scene. Hilt expected that Kennedy Road from McHugh Road to Prairie Meadows Drive would be closed for much of Thursday.

The crash took place on the north side of Kennedy Road about 500 feet east of McHugh Road, Hilt said. The vehicle appeared to have been traveling west on Kennedy Road, but the accident reconstruction will attempt to determine its path.
