Special Delivery: Mom Gives Birth in Oswego Ambulance

The family is slated to meet with firefighters who helped deliver the baby boy next week.

Most of the time, they're putting out fires or helping accident victims.

But Oswego firefighters responded to a different kind of call on Sunday when an expectant mom went into labor in a vehicle.

Oswego Fire Station 1's Medic-1 was dispatched to the area of Orchard Road and Budlong at around 6:51 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, responding to a call of a woman in labor "with information indicating birth was imminent," according to a press release from the Oswego Fire Protection District.

When crews arrived, mom Amanda Sexton and her father-in-law were pulled over on Budlong Road — and signs of delivery had already begun.

Paramedics moved Sexton to an ambulance, and baby boy Braylan was delivered just moments later at around 7 p.m.

Two crew members from Oswego Truck-1 joined the ambulance crew to care for mom and baby while transporting the family to Rush-Copley Hospital.

The Sexton family — including baby Braylan Blake William, mom Amanda, dad Jeffery and big sister Addison — is slated to visit Oswego's Fire Station 1 next week to meet and greet the paramedics who helped bring the baby in the world.
