Two Oswego Juveniles Arrested for Street Racing: Police

Incident occurred late Friday night.

Editor's Note: A correction was made to this story in regards to which juvenile had been charged with which counts.

Two Oswego, male juveniles were arrested for street racing last Friday evening at Routes 34 and 71 just before midnight, said the Oswego Police Department.

One male juvenile, 17, was charged with street racing and the other male juvenile, 16, was charged with street racing, speeding and failure to signal, according to Oswego police. The 16-year-old was also cited with no insurance.

The incident happened at 11:53 p.m. as police caught one car traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone westbound on Route 34. Both cars were stopped by a red light at the intersection of Route 34, Wolf Road and Route 71.

Before a traffic stop could occur, the light changed to green and the two cars took off on southbound Route 71. One of the vehicles failed to signal to merge as the lane narrowed.

A traffic stop was initiated by the Oswego police past Oswego High School and both juveniles were arrested.

Thanks Monica, I dont need your business. If I did I would hide my comments I would only list my first name. The kids are wrong, thats not the stupid point. the cops are way over paid for what they do for the tax payer in Oswego. We dont need 100K a year going to parking tickets and turn signal violations. Stop the theft in town, thats what I pay the PD for, thats what ALL citizens in town need. Hope I didnt hit a wrong key.

...off to google TLC Carpet...I won't be doing business with you, my friend. I am glad the OPD caught these kids and hopefully their parents take away their car keys for at least a year, givng them more time to grow up and respect other people's right to a safe road! Too bad their names aren't published. A little public embarrassment for parents of troublemakers might not be a bad thing.

Regarding OPD stopping cars for turn signal violations...maybe that driver was impaired and a life is saved by this stop. Maybe the stop leads to finding the driver is wanted on a warrant, or has no license or insurance, or the car is stolen. Routine traffic stops keep the rest of us safe in many ways; they are not just about the money from tickets. TLC - learn to see the forest, not just the trees.
