Two Students Taken to Hospital After School Bus Accident

Parents notified of collision at Prairie Point Elementary.

A school bus accident Tuesday morning outside sent two children to the hospital with minor injuries.

Kristine Liptrot, District 308’s director of communications, said Illinois Central Bus No. 3 was turning into the school lot off of Grove Road at about 8:20 a.m. and ran into the back of a minivan also turning into the school.

One child complained of chest pains while another complained of a headache, Liptrot said. One was taken by ambulance to Rush-Copley Medical Center. The other was taken by a parent, Liptrot said The bus driver, who is an employee of Illinois Central Bus, was also taken to the hospital as a matter of procedure, Liptrot said. 

Each of the 39 students on the bus was checked individually by personnel as they exited, Liptrot said. The parents of the students taken to the hospital have been notified, and a phone message was sent out to all Prairie Point parents with students who ride buses, Liptrot said.

The driver of the van, who is also an employee at the school, was later taken to the hospital after complaining of soreness, Liptrot said.
