UPDATE: Three Killed in Semi Truck Crash Near Oswego

The Illinois State Police released preliminary details of a Monday afternoon crash on Rt. 126 between a car and a semi truck in which three people died.

Three people died when a car collided with a semi truck on Route 126 near Oswego on Monday afternoon, according to preliminary information released by the Illinois State Police.

Identities of the three killed in the crash have not been released. One was driving and two were passengers in a black Ford coupe that pulled out in front of a semi truck headed east on Route 126 at Schlapp Road around 3:15 p.m., police said. The crash flipped the semi truck onto its side.

Paramedics needed to use extrication to get the victims from the car, and all three were taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where they were pronounced dead, according to police.

The driver of the semi truck was taken to Rush-Copley with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Route 126 remains blocked off at Schlapp Road to the west and Ridge Road to the east.

More details are expected to be released Tuesday morning, police said.

The time of this accident concerns me. I hope it was not high schoolers in the Ford. Tragic to lose anyone in a car crash, but I do pray it was not kids.
My sympathy to the family and friends of all who did not make it.

i work as a truck driver and work with the nephew of the driver of the semi. its hard to go on doing this job when you see or are involved in something so tragic. twenty years if safe driving and I've seen alot out here. just remember it is very hard to stop 70 to 80 thousand on a dime. i pray everyday to make it back safely to my kids. i will pray for these families its very sad.

Very sad. There are number of dangerous roads south of Route 126. Most of the north/south roads travel past lightly travelled east/west roads the suddenly come upon busier roads like Rte 126 of 52. Please be careful in those areas.
A number of bicycle accidents have happened in those same areas too.

Any update? Heard 2 of the kids are from Plainfield, heard they were 19 and 18. So so sad!
Maureen June 5, 2012 at 01:27 am
It is 3 teenagers, two boys and 1 girl. Both boys were 19 and the girl 18. One of the boys was friends with my daughter and lives down the street. Very tragic!!!!

@Daniel, you say it very well. Nobody realice how hard it is to stop a 80.000 pound truck. Teenage drivers don't care when they behind the wheel of a car. They care only about loud musik, texing and smartphones. Every teenage drivers license should cost $1000 dollars and they should cary a one million dollar accident bond.

udo pepper is right i drive a ton 4 my job and i c this kind of driving out there and have it happen 2 me all the time, not just from teenagers but adults also. everyone is in a big hurry and think of only themselves not that their recklesness can kill. i feel sorry 4 the families and the semi driver
Cassie June 5, 2012 at 12:29 pm
There was no child in the car. The passenger in the back seat was an 18 year old girl. The other two were 19 year old guys. Brian, Tyler, and Alexis.

This accident was undoubtedly a tragedy that cut short three bright lives. As we all process this news and try to make sense of it, let's refrain from cursing and name calling. Let's also keep the family and friends in our thoughts.
Sarah O'Connor June 5, 2012 at 03:02 pm
and people wonder why teenagers have no respect for adults? because people stereotype teenagers as these bad kids who "blast music" and only care about phones. too bad that's not the case. unless you were in that car you have NO IDEA what was going on. it disgusts me that instead of sending prayers out you have to try and degrade teenagers. I'd be ashamed if I was you. RIP Brian,Alexis, and Tyler. from one former tiger who graduated in your 2011 class. we love you and will never forget you. maybe god rest your souls.

Such a sad tragedy. Our young adults live life by the seat of their pants and we as parents hope they make it home safely everyday.....no matter where that home is.
