Update: Police Release Name of Woman Who Died in Route 30 Crash

Snow and road conditions contributed to the crash between a minivan and a semi truck on Route 30 by Goodwin Drive near Montgomery on Thursday afternoon. The driver of the minivan, a 51-year-old woman, died from her injuries.

A 51-year-old Plainfield woman was killed Thursday afternoon after her minivan crossed into an oncoming lane of traffic in Oswego and was struck by a semi track trailer, said.

Icy, snowy conditions are believed to have contributed to the accident in which Cindy Borgra, 23420 W. Link Lane, was critically injured, police said. Borgra was transported to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where she was pronounced dead.

The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on U.S. 30, west of Goodwin Drive. Borgra was driving east on U.S. 30 when her minivan went into the opposite lane and was struck by a truck driven by Joe Clark, 68, of Oswego, Detective Rob Sherwood said.

Clark was also injured in the crash. He was taken to Rush-Copley, where he was treated and released.

The accident forced the closure of U.S. 30 from Route 34 to Fifth Street until about 5 p.m. while police conducted their investigation.

This is terrible. My thoughts, condolences go out to her family, whoever they are.

I hate hearing things like that! My prayers are going out to her family and friends. May she Rest In Peace. Everyone be careful out there!

Indeed this is a terrible accident and I too send condolences to her family and friends. The speed limit between Rt 34 and 5th St is 50-55 miles an hour. Much to fast I think especially when cars are travelling off Rt 34 onto Rt 30 going west. After the stoplight by the library the lanes merge and I have too often seen cars exceeding that limit in order to merge ahead of the cars in the right hand lane. It is a dangerous situation and the speed limit should be reduced.

I was stopped at the light by the fitness place when the fire truck was responding. I remember noticing that the fire truck had issues navigating the intersection. Later, I saw an ambulance screaming over towards that direction, I knew something bad had happened but I didn't know what. My prayers go out to the family.

I actually saw this happen in my rear view mirror. It was a little past 2:30 pm. She was driving a blue minivan. I was going west on US 30 west of US 34 at the bridge over Waubansee Creek. She was driving east and as she passed she was beginning to lose control of her vehicle. I actually thought for a second that she was going to cross the centerline and hit me head on, but she turned the wheel and recovered. She then veered into the guard rail on the outside edge of the bridge, bounced off it, and then crossed the centerline and went head on into a white semi truck (which was behind me by about 200 feet).
Such a horrible thing. The semi truck was probably going only about 35 mph or less. But eastbound traffic appeared to be traveling faster, maybe 45 mph or more. It happened so fast. My prayers go out to her family.

It sounds as though the road may have been slippery because of the snow or perhaps she had a medical problem. Whatever the cause I still think the speed limit should be reduced along Rt. 30. My prayers also go out to her family.

So sad...lives changed forever...
People sometimes don't like being behind me when it snows because I have rear wheel drive and I don't want to end up where I shouldn't be, so I am a snail in snow.... I saw cops everywhere and many had gone off the road!

@everyone Cindy was my sister. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. I am touched by your comments and the fact that you took the time to post something for someone you don't even know. This is a tragedy for everyone involved including the truck driver.
Rocky Koehler January 13, 2012 at 05:59 pm
Erik, thank you for your post, my family and I are still struggling to understand what and how this happened. You have provided more info then were have been told so far. She didn't have a medical problem, she had just stopped at the store on her way home from work. We couldn't understand how she crossed the centerline, but now we do. God bless you for taking the time to post. I have never been to this site before and found it by accident. You are an answer to my prayers.

My my thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family as well as the truck driver involved, as I am in the trucking industry as well and I am sure this is not easy for him either. God bless to you all. Nothing can ease the pain but just know she is in a better place and taken care of.

Our hearts go out to Cindy's family. As the son of the truck driver involved we appreciate all of the warm thoughts and prayers that have been sent to the families involved. I spent some time with my Dad today and he is understandably upset. This was a terrible tragedy.

I know how bad it is there I remember last February when we had all that snow so many cars that were in the ditch I drove to work that morning hoping I could make it to work in one piece I think they should put up a snow fence up that would help with snow drifts and that road should be
The first one salted so no onward else has to lose another loved one my prayers are with the family's

This is so sad. I really feel for the lady who passed, and her family and friends, along with the gentlemen who was driving the truck, too. It is so easy to slip and slide in the snow and once you veer out of control, it's easy to over correct and still end up in a bad situation.
I was so happy people were driving slow last night when I was driving home from work. For a change, no one was speeding or tailgating.
Amy Kehl January 14, 2012 at 02:41 am
She was my church friends mom. Rocky, know that there are a lot of people praying for your family as well as Joe Clark. May he find peace that this was not anyones fault.

I'm sorry for the tragedy and my prayers go out to the families involved. I was working in the area and leaving the jewel on rt 30 right after the accident. Rt 30 was closed and I had to find an alternate way home. Because of the weather I knew something bad had just happened. I think there is someone at fault here, and that would be whoever is in charge of plowing and salting the roads. It seems this is taking longer and longer to get done every time it snows or gets icy. I understand the plow drivers work hard and try to get caught up but there needs to be more of them. It seems in these tough economic times that everyone including the counties has to cut back on things. I'm sorry in Chicagoland in the winter plow and salt trucks should not be one of them. It typically takes a full day to 2 days to get caught up meanwhile people are put in serious danger, to save a few dollars. The main roads, especially where this accident happened, should be plowed and salted as the snow first starts to fall. There is merging traffic, a curve in the road, and too high speed limits. That is a disaster waiting to happen. Hopefully people who have decision making power will use this tragedy to make the necessary changes so it will NEVER happen again. And again, I'm sorry and everyone be safe out there. Thankyou.

Opinion - I have a fulltime job. My wife has a fulltime job. Our kids are in school and very busy.Read More We were taught to vote and those elected to the board of education hires a superintendent and the superintendent manages the school district. We know several board members from the past and two current board members. Hiring administrators? The board approves. Hiring new staff? The board approves. Purchasing computers. The board approves. (And we need more!) The answers to all of your questions? The board is elected by us to do a job. Let them do it. The supt is hired by the board to do a job. Let him do it. I don't have the time or the desire to know everything. That is why I helped HIRE (elect) the board of education. We hear from many in our neighborhood and the replacements are needed because this district needs some changes. Side by side comparisons? Really? That is the job of the board of education. We hear great things are happening. Let's all get behind the new people and show support. Thank you and this is just our opinion.

Ginny- you make great points. Thank you.

The school district and park district basically run this town. If you don't like it, leave. That'sRead More the way it has been for 20 years and it isn't going to change. Anytime there is talk of voting down one of their major referendums, the ensuing debate becomes very predictable. Most notably, they threaten to go nuclear and cut sports and the band and that scares residents into shelling out the cash. Remember when the OHS band went to the Rose Bowl parade years ago? There was a referendum not long after that where they said the band would be cut if it didn't pass. Those are the politics these leaches play. And I call them leaches because that's all they are. They suck the blood (property tax cash) from Oswego. There are sooooo many things from over the years I could write here. One that really stands out is a full color booklet that was sent to residents explaining that the Oswego school system was lagging behind and that they needed more money. It was later determined that a construction company paid for the booklet to be sent out. So basically they were trying to convince Oswego residents undercover that we needed more schools..... for them to get the contracts to build. And don't even get me started on the Oswego Ledger newspaper, which has the reach to set the record straight on a lot of things. They are great for coverage of area events and whatnot, but their political coverage has always been a disgrace. I've often wondered if the local government has the paper in their back pocket. That was as of a few years ago. I haven't given them my money since then. Maybe it has changed. If so, I would gladly subscribe again. If you go out into the community and talk about the property taxes and where they are going, everyone agrees that something needs to be done. Don't be fooled by the extremely vocal minority that shows up online (such as on this page) to support the way things currently are.
