Why are you seeking office?

I am seeking this office because I have an interest in continuing to serve my community. I have served previously on the Library Board and worked over 35 years in Education as a reading specialist and learning center director.

What set you apart from other candidates?

I have experience in leadership with a variety of elected and non-elected positions over my lifetime. I believe that a strong community is one that emphasizes literacy and education and provides opportunities for all citizens to have access to materials and technology that can enhance their lives.

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?

If I am elected to the Oswego Library District Board, I will work diligently with the trustees and staff to constantly improve the quality of services offered by the library while at the same time work to increase the number of patrons using library facilities/services. I will work with trustees and staff to ensure that the library district use taxpayer funds responsibly, keep the operational costs at a minimum, and minimize the tax burden on the district’s residents and businesses.

What do you consider to be the main issues facing the Oswego Public Library today?

What programs or events do you think the Oswego Library should be taking part in? How will these help the library gain exposure as well as provide learning opportunities for all ages of the public?

Although I am impressed with all of the services and materials currently offered by the Oswego Library District, I would like to see more special presentations offered with authors by working with local bookstores, mini-workshops on specific topics like Smart phones and Windows 8, and the creation of a variety of book and author study groups for all ages.

How do you think the library can remain current with today's youth and the technology age?

The library can remain current by collaborating with local schools through special programming, author presentations, and providing assistance with research, homework, and homeschooling. Patrons of all ages need to be heard, be encouraged to offer feedback, and participate in surveys.
