Campaign Questions

Why are you seeking office?

I have served on the OPD for the past 2 years.  During this time I have made a few significant contributions.  I made the motion to lower the levy by 5%.  This saves the taxpayers approximately $250,000.00.  I also suggested painting and re-roofing one of the equipment storage buildings that were in desperate need of repair, at a cost of approximately $25,000.00.  Replacing the building would have cost much more. What set you apart from other candidates?

My experience sets me apart from other candidates.  I served from 1983-1987 on the Oswego Village Board.  Two of those years I served as President Pro-Tem.  I also served on the Kendall County Board from 1987-1990. Two of those years I served as Vice Chairman.  I was also Chairman of the Finance Committee.  I suggested we form our own computer department to generate our own tax bills, as they were previously generated by DuPage County.

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?

I would continue to work toward controlling taxes and spending.

What do you consider to be the main issues facing the Oswgoland Park District today?

The economy is one of our biggest issues today.  Due to rising prices in almost everything, especially fuel, it is a challenge to keep costs down.

What can the Park District do to cut expenses? Are there any expenses that you feel are very necessary or unnecessary presently?

We must watch our overhead expenses and continue to cut costs when and where possible.

What do you consider to be the Park District's most important program? What would you suggest to improve it?

We have several important programs in the park district.  One being the Kids Connection.  It has operated in the black, does not cost the taxpayers, and provides a great service to the community.  Two is our swimming programs which are also profitable.  Three is the golf course.  The board reduced the overhead this past season (2012), and we were able to put the course back in the black, after two years in the red.  I feel all of these programs are very beneficial to a strong and healthy community.
