By the Numbers: 2011 PrairieFest Tallies Small Profit

Here's a look at some of the more interesting numbers from a Park District report on this year's PrairieFest.

The Board of Commissioners got a report last week on the finances of this year’s PrairieFest from Marketing Superintendent Margaret Geinger. Here’s a list of some of the more interesting numbers.

$228,333 Total revenue from this year’s fest.

$223,001 Total expenses from this year’s fest.

$5,322 Total profit.

$44,650 Amount the district took in sponsorship donations. That's down from $65,010 last year.

$72,194 Amount of beer sales. 2010 beer sales totaled $63,570

2 headlining bands. This year, festival organizers booked two headlining acts, Blue Oyster Cult and Sister Hazel. Geinger said next year they plan to go back to hiring just one headlining act because “we don’t feel like we can continue that level of expense."

145 Number of people who completed the ’s first-ever online PrairieFest survey.

81 Number of people who answered the survey who said they filled their car with gas in Oswego during the fest.

76 Number of those surveyed who said they made a purchase at an Oswego business during the fest.

77 Percentage of respondents who said the should invite back the company used to keep the portable toilets clean.

45,000 Total number of estimated attendees. That’s up about 5,000 from last year.

$0 Admission fee. Park Board President Bob Mattingly said that as long as he sits on the Board, he would like to keep that fee the same.
