Letter to the Editor: Gail Johnson Asking Everyone to 'Soap the Vote'

Send your letter to the editor to steven.jack@patch.com

The local election season is upon us.

Signs are popping up, ads are filling the printed page, letters of support, denial, approval, and condemnation are plentiful. It's great to see so many of our residents taking an interest.

Now the bad news: little more than 12 percent of the registered voters actually
made it to the polls on Election Day April 2009. How do we turn interest into a vote? How can we remind each other to go to the polls?

Soap the Vote! This idea is the brain child of a local business owner. I loved it! Just pick up a window crayon or glass and window marker and write (soap) the word VOTE on your car windows, home windows, and shop windows. Start soaping April 1 and keep it up through Election Day April 5.

So tell your friends, your neighbors, and your family members to Soap the Vote. Then upload your pictures on my Facebook page (Gail Johnson candidate for Oswego Village Trustee). The picture with the most "likes" will win a mystery prize. High voter turnout equals a win for us all. Soap the Vote!
Let the contest begin.

Gail Johnson, Oswego
