Oswego Working to Conserve Salt: Village

Residents are asked to help out by clearing snow from mailboxes.

It's been a tough winter, and like other communities, the Village of Oswego says it's working to conserve road salt.

"The village has a limited supply remaining, and suppliers will not guarantee that additional salt will be available this season," the village said via its Facebook page. "The village has begun mixing sand with salt to extend the supply of salt. Crews will only be applying salt on both lanes of a primary roads; intersections; hills and curves of secondary roads; and other areas of concern."

Village staff also noted that crews are having difficulties moving snow over the curb due to the total snowfall accumulation after even more snow fell overnight.

"Residents are asked to assist in clearing snow from mailboxes, as the plows will not be able to remove snow all the way to the mailbox," the village said, and also urged drivers to use caution around snow plows, as plow drivers have limited visibility.
