Police Chief Baird Named Interim Village Administrator

LeClercq: Outgoing administrator Gary Adams will aid in transition.

The transition at the Village Administrator post at has begun with the announcement that Police Chief Dwight Baird will take over as interim administrator effective immediately. Baird will also remain in his post as Police Chief.

Former administrator Gary Adams announced March 22 his last day with the village would be June 3. He has taken the city manager's job in Huber Heights, Ohio.

Newly re-elected Village President Brian LeClercq said the move to place Baird in the office was necessary.

"I think that it's important that we move forward with a transition period," LeClercq said. "What we don't want to happen is that we get to June and things have fallen through the cracks."

LeClercq said Adams has agreed to assist Baird in his new role and will be available by phone and for meetings.

"Gary is a professional, and Dwight is a professional," LeClercq said. "I think this is the best way to move forward."

LeClercq said Adams' contract expires April 30 and he will be paid through that period. As for a search for a new full-time administrator, LeClercq said the process will begin when the new Village Board is sworn in in the coming weeks.

Adams did not return calls for comment on this story.
