Snow Rules to Know Around Oswego

Make sure you aren't breaking any ordinances with your shoveling or where you chose to park if it's snowing.

It's officially time for all that white stuff to start making a regular appearance.

And that means you need to make sure you're obeying all Oswego Village ordinances regarding the snow.

Parking on the street

Parking on the street during snowfall? Think again.

If there are more than two inches of snow on the ground and the plows need to come through you can't be parked on the street until it has been plowed or the snowfall has stopped, according to the Village ordinance 9-4-8.

Besides, leaving your car in the street is a danger for anyone who might clip it while driving if the roads are slippery.

Shoveling

We all love it when our driveways and sidewalks are clear.

But you can't shovel all of the snow into the street.

As of January 2004, it is unlawful for residents to shovel snow from their drives onto the street, according to ordinance 8-2-13.

Consider making a giant pile in your yard instead that the kids can play in, make a fort out of or that you can use to build the foundation of your own snow castle.

Enjoy the snow - just keep it legal!

No doubt! I mean, I understand that they can't control where it goes, but I really hate removing that heavy salt laden crap from my driveway and letting it sit on my grass.

After Snow Blowing The Parking Lot Of The Building I Live In Without Any Issues For Several Years Until The Blizzard Last Year. There Was So Much Snow And No Where To Blow It To So I Blew Most Of It Into The Street. When I Was Done And In My Warm Apartment I Had A Knock On The Door In Which A Nice Police Officer Informed Me Of ordinance 8-2-13. I Did Not Get A Ticket But The Snow Plows Decided To Make A 5 Foot Pile Of Snow Blocking The Entrace To The Parking Lot.

If You Do Make A Large Pile Of Snow In Your Yard PLEASE Make Sure Your Children Know The Dangers. There Have Been Several Deaths Of Children That Were Playing On Large Piles Of Snow ( Building A Fort ) And It Collasped And Buried The Kids And Smothered Them

Has anyone ever seen a plow??? They drove down the road pushing snow to the sides....(clearing the roads) To the sides there are driveways . It kills me every year to see the comments posted about this. Maybe we can invent flying snow plows, push a button and at every driveway they hop in the air. Let me call the fairy and put in a good word!
