Village OKs Liquor License for New Restaurant Next to OHS

4092 Route 71 seen plenty of new businesses at its location over the last year. In 2011 it was the home of Tuscany and in August the signing for Villa Nova II went up.

However, Villa Nova II was denied a liquor license earlier in September and the building has remained vacant since.

Now, it apparently has a new tenant moving in.

Crazy Bull Grill & Saloon had their liquor license approved by the Oswego Village board with a 5-1 vote at last Tuesday’s board meeting.

Tony Giles expressed concern that another bar-type restaurant was going to be so close to Oswego High School.

Trustee Gail Johnson said she understood Giles’ concern, and she was also concerned that the location has been home to bar and grill restaurants for so long.

“I don’t know if they would have better success with a different name… but I would have a problem with telling businesses where they should be located," she said.

Another concern expressed was the possession of the liquor license. Trustee Jeff Lawson asked what type of prohibitions were in place if the business owner happened to be “short term” before they sold the establishment to someone else.

“Our licenses are not transferrable so a new owner would need to re-apply,” said village clerk Jeanne Hoch. “The new owner would also need to go through a background check.”

The liquor license approval passed 5-1, with Giles voting no and Johnson, Lawson, Scott Volpe, Judy Sollinger and Terry Michels all voting yes.
