Do you think the entry sign into Oswego should display the Village logo? Be a permanent concrete structure?

These were all questions the Village board members discussed Tuesday evening with the presentation of new entry signs that will be displayed at the Village boundaries.

Public relations coordinator Michele Brown said that last year when the issue was approached there were no funds for the project, but in this year's budget $30,000 was set aside for new signs.

“We need about 14 signs at entry points,” said Brown. “Depending on what design, they could move based on boundary agreements as we expand.”

Four designs were presented. The first was a tavern type sign that Brown said is the minimal cost options. Designs two and three were the same type but one featured the Village logo.

“A lot of signs don’t have their village logo,” said Brown of multiple other towns around the area, “but we felt that our logo was very strong.”

The third option is the most expensive and is an unmovable masonry sign that Brown said Village staff felt was very attractive for the community.

Village President Brian LeClercq said he liked the tavern signs for some of the smaller entry roads and then the second design with the village logo for the other roads.

“That was my thought too,” said Trustee Terry Michels, adding that he’d like for the tavern signs to also display “welcome to” above the Village of Oswego.

Trustee Gail Johnson also approved and said she loved the tavern sign. “It looks modern and old fashioned at the same time.”

Brown said they will now look at putting the project out to bid and go from there.
