Oswego Village Trustee Considering Run for State Senate

Tony Giles has formed an exploratory committee to determine if he should seek GOP nomination.

Oswego Village Trustee Tony Giles is considering a run for a higher office.

Giles announced late Monday night the formation of an exploratory committee to determine if he should seek the Republican nomination for a run at the newly drawn 49th State Senate District.

The new 49th District includes portions of Oswego, Plainfield, Romeoville and Bolingbrook.

"I will bring the same approach to Springfield I have brought to Oswego," said the two term trustee. "We must live within our means, be fully open and transparent, and fight against the special interests and big money power players who want to control government at all levels and be enriched to the detriment of the taxpayers.”

A news release announcing the committee said Giles has earned a fiscally conservative reputation, fighting wasteful spending, new taxes and developer give-aways.

Giles, 39, has taught and coached at since 2005. Before that he taught at Plainfield South High School.

Giles earned his master’s degree in education from DePaul University in 2002 and a master’s in counseling from Northern Illinois University in 2007.

He and his wife, Kathy, have four children, and Giles has been a volunteer coach in the Oswegoland Park District and Oswego Baseball and Softball Association. He and his family are members of in Oswego.
